Product description

"Portrait of Boy with Tattoos and his Louis Vuitton Teddy Bear"

MASTER SERIES - Masterpiece inspired by Rembrandt's technique.

Rick has, inspired by the technique of Rembrandt van Rijn, followed training courses and worked as a self-taught artist on study pieces for the past two years, before coming out with the first results for the first time. These are Rick Triest's Master Series.

The technique

Unlike Rembrandt, Rick first works with a charcoal drawing on canvas and then sets up the painting in a first dark layer of paint. After which he works up the work with white. Ultimately, a work in Rick's Master series consists of 8 to 12 layers of paint and works with Glazing techniques, (Frottis) dry brush techniques, Impasto technique and Alla prima technique (Wet in Wet) in parts.

Theme and Style

The painting style contract in each piece is what aligns with Rick's philosophy behind a work. The depth that is created between detailed details and rawer parts makes the works speak. The viewer, from a distance, experiences a completely detailed painting, but the rough painting comes to the fore on an approximation. In which thick blobs of impasto paint become visible. Due to this painting style, a work can be interpreted again and again, experienced differently and new parts come to light for the viewer. This is in contrast to realistic art or photography art.

The chosen themes can vary, they look purely at the interpretation of technique, art value or applied Rembrandt parts. This means that Rick applies parts of Rembrandt's work  in his painting. Think of the sleeve of Joseph from the Jewish bride or the light and dark play by Rembrandt van Rijn.
