An Amsterdam canal house as a personalized anniversary gift
For a special bespoke commission, I had the opportunity to personalize my bronze Amsterdam canal houses for Roland Berger Amsterdam. To mark their 15th anniversary, the canal house was crafted in polished bronze and featured a personalized engraving.
A small work of art weighing approximately one kilogram, created to provide a lasting memento of a significant milestone.
FROM PAINTING TO BRONZE
My bronze Amsterdam canal houses originated from my paintings. The characteristic facades and my distinctive, loose artistic style have been translated from paint on canvas into a three-dimensional bronze object.
The bronze canal houses are created using the lost-wax method—an ancient technique for casting bronze sculptures. A wax version is made from a model, creating a mold into which the molten bronze is poured.
After casting, a crucial phase of hand-finishing begins: the bronze is refined, brushed, and—in this instance—highly polished. Depending on the specific version, my standard bronze canal houses weigh between 1 and 1.5 kilograms and are signed by hand.
A UNIQUE ANNIVERSARY GIFT
For Roland Berger, the back of the piece was specially engraved with the company logo, the anniversary inscription "15 years of excellence – Roland Berger Amsterdam," and my signature.
This transforms each bronze house into more than just a corporate gift; it becomes a personal art object created specifically for the recipient and the occasion.

The lost-wax casting method makes it possible to preserve the irregularities and handcrafted character of the original model in the final bronze piece.
