Designed by Rick Triest – Dutch Beauty

Dutch icons in a new visual language

Tulips, Delft blue, color, and gold. Designed by Rick Triest – Dutch Beauty brings together recognizable elements of Dutch art and culture in a bold, contemporary collection.

The foundation lies in Rick Triest’s painting. The tulip has played a key role in his work for years and serves as the starting point for a much broader product range within the Dutch Beauty line.

The result is now one of the most extensive product lines under the Designed by Rick Triest brand. The collection can be found in garden centers, shops in Amsterdam and the surrounding area, and at prominent tourist locations such as Keukenhof and Schiphol Airport.

From Dutch tulip to Dutch Beauty

The inspiration for Dutch Beauty stems from the special status of flowers in Dutch art history. During the Golden Age, tulips became symbols of beauty, luxury, and exclusivity, and flowers took a prominent place in Dutch painting.

Rick does not use this history to literally reproduce the past. Instead, he combines tulips with his own expressive painting style, vibrant colors, gold lines, and references to Delft blue.

This creates a distinctive visual language that feels both Dutch and contemporary. Ter Steege also describes Dutch Beauty as a collection centered on the iconic Dutch tulip.

Art as the foundation for product design

The designs originate from Rick Triest’s artwork. Paintings, drawings, color studies, and specially created compositions are translated into products where form and imagery must work in harmony.

This is particularly evident in the pots and vases: a painting is two-dimensional, whereas a pot is viewed from all angles. The composition therefore has to be reconstructed: tulips shift in position and size, lines wrap around the form, and areas of color are adapted to the object's volume.

The combination of pink, blue, green, gold, and Delft blue elements gives Dutch Beauty its distinctive character. The pots in the image clearly illustrate this transformation: the artwork does not appear merely as a separate print on the product but forms a visually unified whole with its shape.

From flowerpot to lifestyle collection

Dutch Beauty is evolving into an extensive collection that includes flowerpots and vases, tableware, mugs, drinking bottles, cutting and serving boards, coasters, bags, and various gift and lifestyle items. The line thus spans the categories of home décor, flowers and plants, tabletop products, and souvenirs. The current retail range reflects this breadth, encompassing everything from large pots and vases to smaller lifestyle items.

It is precisely this versatility that makes Dutch Beauty a key line within the *Designed by Rick Triest* portfolio. The same artistic signature works just as well on a large plant pot as it does on a drinking bottle, a tabletop product, or a gift item.

From garden center to international audience

Dutch Beauty brings Rick Triest’s art out of the studio and to a much wider audience. The collection is sold through diverse retail channels and is showcased annually at locations where flowers, the Netherlands, and international tourism converge.

This creates an intriguing connection. In a garden center, the pots sit literally among flowers and plants; at tourist destinations, the same designs serve as a contemporary nod to the Netherlands.

This makes Dutch Beauty both a home décor collection and a modern interpretation of Dutch Design.

Collaboration with Ter Steege

*Designed by Rick Triest* is the result of a collaboration with Ter Steege, a Dutch family-owned business with over 90 years of experience in flowerpots, home décor, and lifestyle products.

Rick contributes his art, designs, ideas, and creative signature, licensing them for use within the collection. Together with Rick, Ter Steege translates these elements into product development, manufacturing, product ranges, and retail distribution.

This combination makes it possible to develop a scalable collection based on an original artwork without losing sight of the artist's distinctive identity. Art that travels further

*Dutch Beauty* perhaps best illustrates the meaning of "Designed by Rick Triest."

A painting or idea originates in the studio, is translated into a product, and—through shops and international visitors—reaches an audience that might otherwise never encounter an original Rick Triest painting.

The tulip remains the connecting element throughout: a centuries-old Dutch icon, reimagined by a contemporary Dutch artist.

In this way, *Designed by Rick Triest – Dutch Beauty* unites art, Dutch Design, flowers, interiors, and retail into a single, recognizable world.
