Collection - Designed by Rick Triest – Blossom Blue

From almond blossom to modern interior collection

Designed by Rick Triest – Blossom Blue finds its origins in the blossom paintings of artist Rick Triest. A distinctive world of flowering branches, deep blue hues, and layered painting techniques forms the foundation for a collection of modern flowerpots, vases, and lifestyle products.

The original paintings draw inspiration from almond blossoms, the serene beauty of Japanese art, and the way Vincent van Gogh translated these influences into his own work. Rick brings this inspiration together in a unique, contemporary visual language.

Layered painting as a foundation

A hallmark of Rick’s blossom works is their layered composition. Various transparent and opaque paint layers, brushstrokes, and textures remain partially visible, creating depth within the artwork.

Delicate blossom branches move across these layers. Up close, the paint, lines, and texture are visible; from a distance, a calm and cohesive image emerges.

It is precisely this painterly layering that serves as a key starting point for Blossom Blue. The design must remain recognizable as an artistic translation—even when applied to a flowerpot or vase—rather than turning into an ordinary graphic floral pattern.

Blossom Blue for flowers and plants

With Blossom Blue, the blossom finds a new setting. The art is translated into modern flowerpots and vases designed to complement flowers, plants, and contemporary interiors.

This makes the collection a natural bridge between art and the world of greenery and interior design. The pots and vases are distributed to garden centers and other retailers, where Rick Triest’s art becomes part of a much broader home and plant collection. In addition to pots and vases, Blossom Blue is applied to items such as drinking bottles, cutting and serving boards, tableware, and various lifestyle and gift products.

Collaboration with Ter Steege

For "Designed by Rick Triest," Rick collaborates with Ter Steege, the Dutch family-owned company behind brands such as TS Collection.

Rick contributes his existing artwork, new designs, ideas, and creative direction, granting usage rights for their application within the collection. Ter Steege combines this with expertise in product development, manufacturing, distribution, garden centers, and international retail.

Throughout the development process, a single question remains central: how do you translate the aesthetic of an original painting into a functional product without losing its artistic identity?

Art as the Starting Point

"Blossom Blue" demonstrates how a painting can serve as the foundation for an entire world of products.

The origins remain visible in the almond blossoms, the Japanese influences, the intense blue hues, and—above all—Rick Triest’s layered painting technique. From this artistic base, a collection emerges in which modern planters and vases play a key role, complemented by products for interiors, tabletop use, and everyday life.

"Designed by Rick Triest – Blossom Blue" thus sits at the intersection of fine art, product design, interior styling, and retail.
